Dele Sosimi is one of the brightest lights in Afrobeat and funk today. His pedigree is unquestionable: he cut his teeth as the keyboard player, musical director and instructor in Fela Kuti’s Egypt 80. He continued with Fela’s son Femi in Positive Force, combining complex funk grooves, traditional Nigerian music, hi-life, African percussion and jazz.
Now the Afrobeat consultant and keyboard player for the London production of Fela! Dele has taken his infectious grooves to the Montreux Jazz Festival, Joe Zawinul’s Birdland in Vienna and all around the world over the years. Through the Dele Sosimi Afrobeat Foundation and London Metropolitan University, he is and educator in Afrobeat and a visiting lecturer in Music and Media.
Soundwave is pleased to feature his tribute to one of the monumental figures in music!
